A graduate's perspective: Emma Murphy

Emma shares her experience as a Graduate Development Trainee at Windy City Wire.

“Meeting the other graduates has made me even more excited to get started. Knowing I’ll be learning, growing and navigating new experiences alongside a cohort of peers gives me confidence and makes the programme feel incredibly supportive.”

What I've been doing and what I've learned

Throughout my time at Windy City Wire so far, I have learned so much about the different departments and their functions within a business.

Windy City is a successful manufacturer and distributer, so I am getting experience in both of those realms as well. Through my first few weeks, I have covered sales and purchasing training- learning what it takes to speak to vendors and make custom orders, as well as how to discern a customer’s needs and evaluate how quickly we can get them a finished product. It has been very interesting to see behind the scenes of how these two branches work together to deliver a reliable product in a consistent timeframe.

What I've enjoyed

I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting all my coworkers, as well as the several managers that take time out of their busy schedules to teach and mentor me. This program has allowed me to build strong professional relationships with experienced individuals that will, no doubt, help me grow my career and well-rounded knowledge of a business.
